In this one-hour workshop, we'll explore the evolving landscape of permanency and why it is essential for professionals to understand and adapt to these changes. The session will emphasize child-centred transition planning, using trauma-informed approaches that honour the child’s voice, history, and relationships. We'll also look at strategies to effectively support both foster and permanency families throughout the transition process, addressing common challenges and promoting long-term stability. The workshop will conclude with a Q&A session, providing space for reflective dialogue, practical problem-solving, and professional collaboration.
This session will be facilitated by Ashleigh Martinflatt. With over 20 years of experience in the permanency field, Ashleigh has dedicated her career to supporting the needs of children and youth in and from care as a clinical counsellor and university professor. She holds a Master of Social Work specializing in children and families, and most importantly, she is also a parent through adoption.
