Client rights and responsibilities policy

As a client of Belonging Network, you can expect:

To be treated with respect. We will respect your family-type, lifestyle, religion, ethnicity, culture and your opinions.

To have your personal information and family history kept private and strictly confidential, with one exception: if you disclose information that leads us to be concerned that you may have hurt or may hurt a child, we have a duty to report our concern to the proper authorities.

To have fair and equitable access to services where and when they are provided. When you inquire about our services, you will be given information to enable you to decide if our services are of interest to you, and to determine if you are eligible.

To be heard – Belonging Network is always open to comments or suggestions about our services. If you have a complaint, Belonging Network has a formal complaint procedure which is available to all clients on our website at www.belongingnetwork.com or by request.

As a participant in our group programs and services, Belonging Network has the expectation that if you participate, you will:
  • Treat others in the group with respect and understand that their adoption experiences, family-type, lifestyle, religion, ethnicity, culture and opinions may or may not be the same as yours.
  • Respect the privacy and confidentiality of the group. Our rule is “what is said in the group, stays in the group.”

Collection, use and disclosure of personal information:
The personal information you voluntarily provide to Belonging Network is protected under the provisions of British Columbia’s and Canada’s provincial and federal privacy legislation (PIPA). Depending on the nature of the transaction, Belonging Network generally collects contact information (name, address, email, telephone number) and payment information if required, related to event registrations, group participation, donations, subscriptions, memberships, newsletter and information mailings.
Your information will only be used for the following:
  • Respond to your inquiries
  • Send you informational material
  • Send you subscription or membership renewal notices
  • Enable event registration and online group participation
  • Conduct financial transactions
  • Notify you of events or offers of interest to you
  • Inform you of changes to programs you are participating in
  • Solicit financial support
  • Generate anonymous statistics

All of our commercial electronic messages are compliant with Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation, and will always give you the opportunity to manage your subscription preferences and opt out of future mailings. Your personal information is not shared, rented, exchanged or otherwise disclosed to any outside third party, except where authorized or required by law.

Copyright and reuse of materials policy

The entire contents and design of Belonging Network workshops and videos are protected by Canadian and international copyright laws. I acknowledge that I may not copy, reproduce, republish, upload, post, display, transmit, frame or link any of these materials without prior written consent from the copyright owners.

I understand and agree that title to these materials shall not pass to me or any other user, and that I may not use these materials for any commercial purpose.

MCFD reporting
Completion reports:
As a participant in the Adoption Education Program course, I understand that Belonging Network will provide MCFD with a copy of my transcript and certificate of completion.

I understand that I will also receive these two completion documents.

Problem reports:
I understand that if there is an ongoing concern with my participation or behaviour based on the red flag scale, the course facilitator will report the concern to my social worker to signal that I need extra support. I understand that the facilitator will share and discuss the matter with me before sending it on to appropriate MCFD staff.

Coursework:
I understand that it is my responsibility to make a copy of and retain my coursework and assignments, which my social worker may request as a part of my homestudy.Participants who do not login within two weeks of the course opening or are inactive within the course environment for at least two weeks, will be considered a drop out.
Withdrawal, cancellation and refund Policy

If you want to withdraw from the Adoption Education Program, you must notify both your course facilitator and the Education Coordinator.

Cancellation refunds:
- 100% refund if Belonging Network cancels the course
- 100% refund if you cancel before the course start date
Withdrawal refunds:
- 75% refund if you withdraw within 7 days after the course start date
- No refund if you withdraw more than 7 days after the course start date
Registration fee:
- The registration fee is non-refundable unless Belonging Network cancels the course
