Parenting kids with trauma can be tough at any stage of their development. This online workshop is designed to provide tips and tools for trauma-informed parenting and to help parents understand the relationship between trauma and adoption. Tuesdays, April 9, 16, & 23 from 7:00-9:00 pm.

Parents will learn about the different types of trauma, how they manifest in the developing child and strategies for parenting with a trauma-informed approach.

Workshop outline:

Session 1 - Trauma and the adopted child

  1. Understanding trauma
  2. Children in care
  3. Child/adolescent development
  4. Attachment
  5. Trauma storms

Session 2 - Core principles of trauma-informed parenting

  1. Safety
  2. Relationships
  3. Communication

Session 3 - Healing and self-care

  1. Non-trauma moments
  2. Scale of healing
  3. Environments of healing
  4. Self-care

Activities: Presented in an online multi-media format, activities include live online presentations, group discussions, reading articles, watching videos, breakout rooms.

Facilitator: This workshop is taught by an instructor with over 16 years in the permanency field. She holds her Master's in Social Work and is a Ph.D. candidate in Child and Youth Care.

Dates: Tuesdays, April 9, 16, & 23, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
Fee: $95 per person.
