The McCreary Centre Society’s 2024 Youth Transitioning Out of Care in BC report sheds light on the challenges faced by youth transitioning from government care into adulthood.

Conducted by the Youth Research Academy (YRA), a group of young people aged 16 to 24 with personal experience in care, the report highlights key obstacles in areas such as housing, education, employment, health, and support services. It also emphasizes the importance of certain factors in easing their transition, including having supportive adults, strong community connections, and a clear transition plan.

Whether you’re a professional working with youth, an adoptive parent, or a caregiver, these insights can help guide us toward more effective support strategies for young people as they step into adulthood.

Our approach to supporting youth

At the Belonging Network, we believe in the importance of listening to youth in and from foster care, responding to their needs, and empowering them to live healthy adult lives. Their voices shape every program and service we offer, guiding us in our goal to support youth as fully as possible.

Our programs include:

  • bursaries to help you pursue educational opportunities
  • a one-stop online resource hub packed with information about transitioning out of government care called AgedOut.com
  • life skills programming in partnership with community organizations across BC
  • and more!
