Many children and youth in kinship care, along with their kinship caregivers, remain connected to members of their biological families, requiring kinship caregivers to navigate often complex and challenging family dynamics. This workshop honours and supports kinship caregivers as they navigate the specifics of holiday visits, celebrations, and expectations surrounding gifts and other exchanges that can be particularly stressful.

Participants will:

  • Develop greater confidence in supporting family contact and visits during the holiday season.
  • Learn practical strategies for setting healthy boundaries and effectively responding to the big feelings of the children and youth in their care around the holidays.
  • Build confidence in balancing competing needs, reducing conflict, and supporting children's sense of identity, well-being, and connection during the holidays.
