This course covers:
• Building compassion and empathy for birth parents
• Understanding addiction and the impacts of prenatal drug and alcohol exposure on the infant
• What to expect when bringing baby home
• Infant development and mental health
• Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) and Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS)
Format: This online course is comprised of self-directed videos, discussions, and journalling. Participants will receive a takeaway resource guide.
Audience: This workshop is directed toward adoptive and permanency parents and referred foster parents. We recommend that participants have taken the Adoption Education Program (AEP) or foster parent training prior to taking Safe Babies. This workshop is for adults only.
Fee: $150 per person. Each participant must register and complete their course material individually. Partners cannot share a single registration.
Important note: To receive a completion certificate for this course, participants must obtain certified infant/child First Aid (including CPR) training outside of the Belonging Network and provide their certificate to the Belonging Network Registration Coordinator.
Your First Aid training must include certified infant/child CPR training. Please reference the chart below to ensure that it meets the requirements for certification in this course. Foster parents, please check with your resource workers on provincial and local requirements.

Dates: The course starts on May 31st. Participants must complete assignments before September 20th.
